Osteopathy, a holistic approach to healthcare, was developed approximately 100 years ago as a response to the conventional medical practices of that era. The foundational principles of osteopathy are rooted in century-old concepts that emphasise the body's intrinsic ability to maintain and repair itself. This self-healing capability is contingent upon the proper functioning of its structure, mechanical systems, and circulatory processes. By ensuring that these elements are in balance, osteopathic practitioners believe that the body can operate at its optimal level.

At our practice, our primary objective is to enhance the body's overall function. By addressing any imbalances or restrictions, we aim to facilitate the body's natural healing processes, thereby enabling it to effectively repair itself and achieve a higher state of health and well-being.

Cheam Osteopaths has been an established family-run clinic in Sutton for over 30 years providing access to fully qualified osteopaths to help diagnose and safely treat your problems.

We are proud to be members of the Institute of Osteopathy and the General Osteopathic Council.

What Is Osteopathy Treatment Like?

In this country, the approach to treatment predominantly relies on manual techniques, with the occasional incorporation of advanced therapeutic modalities such as ultrasound therapy and Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) machines, depending largely on the preferences and expertise of the practitioner. During your visit, we will conduct a thorough assessment to evaluate how your body's joints and muscles function and interact, providing us with valuable insights that will guide your treatment plan.

When it comes to the treatment experience itself, you can expect it to be largely painless and deeply relaxing. Our methods typically include soft tissue massage, which helps to alleviate tension, alongside gentle manipulation and articulation of your joints and muscles. This careful approach not only promotes relaxation but also enhances mobility and overall well-being.

Long-Term Relief

To support your recovery and minimise the chances of your condition reoccurring, it is essential for most osteopaths to encourage you to take an active role in managing your health. This proactive approach will typically involve receiving guidance on improving your posture, along with tailored advice and a sensible exercise regimen that suits your individual needs. Our team is committed to equipping you with all the necessary information and resources to help you effectively manage your condition and promote lasting wellness.

In cases where it is determined that your issues may not be related to your muscles or skeletal system, we will take appropriate action by referring you to your GP or a specialist for further evaluation. This ensures that you receive comprehensive care and support tailored to your specific health requirements. Your well-being is our priority, and we are here to guide you every step of the way.
